It’s getting darker and chillier and therefore, harder to leave the house. At this time of year, once Guy Fawkes has been and gone, I usually just want to stay home and get cosy. Luckily, Netflix are on my wavelength and have put lots of new films and series out that are worth staying in for. Here are the releases I’m most looking forward to from Netflix UK:
Queer Eye: Japan (1st Nov)
My favourite, most heartwarming reality TV show. The fab five are such a friendly, kind, supportive group. This promises to be an extremely feel-good and comforting watch.
Grease!
I always forget how brilliant Grease is until I watch it again. Okay yes; so there’s some pretty questionable morals at play and not every character is great role model, but the film is iconic, the music is universally recognised and John Travolta as a young man is a sight to behold.
Zombieland (1st Nov)
This is a bit of a late addition to the site, but if you’re still feeling spooky after Halloween and could do with something to laugh at then Zombieland is the perfect film. Watch it before the sequel which came out earlier in October.
A Single Man (1st Nov)
Directed by Tom ford and starring Colin Firth in a brilliant leading role; needless to say, A Single Man is an incredibly stylish and beautiful film. It is an adaptation of the Christopher Isherwood novel and it depicts Southern California in a sepia haziness that might bring a bit of warmth to a cold winter night.
Suffragette (16th Nov)
Historical and very moving, Suffragette is a wonderful way to learn a bit about the beginnings of the women’s suffrage movement in the UK. The cast is bursting at the seams with talent including Meryl Streep, Cary Mulligan and Romola Garai and the subject matter is very must still pertinent.
The Crown season 3 (17th Nov)
Do you associate period (ish) serialised dramas with longer nights and colder weather too? In lieu of a new series of Call the Midwife (Please! TV gods!) The Crown series 3 promises to satisfy that dramatic itch. Particularly relevant considering the news coverage lately about the Royal Family.
